In this seminar, we examine from a political science perspective the central role of communication in political will-formation and decision-making processes: political decisions must not only be made, but also communicated and explained. Citizens want to be convinced by political programs. Whether during election campaigns, through candidates, or incumbent officeholders, communication is the bridge between politics and the public. We analyze how political communication processes function and explore both past and current election campaigns to understand how political actors address and influence the public, the media, and voters.I assume that you enjoy reading current academic literature, are willing to situate it within the foundational theories of political communication, and are eager to discuss it critically. Basic knowledge of statistics and the ability to understand English-language texts are also required.
The course language is German.
